11 months old today!!

i can hardly believe that keller will be 1 year old in 1 month from today! he is growing at the speed of light!! for ever and ever i thought he would never crawl and then within a span of 2 weeks he started "crawling", pulling up on everything and cruising all over the house. now for those of you who aren't familiar with baby talk "cruising" is when little guys who can't walk independently hold on the anything they can (fingers, couch, coffee table, wall etc) and take steps to get where they need to go. it's the precursor to walking. i am pretty confident that he'll be walking by his 1st birthday, or at least i hope so. it is definitely a different day for us now because he can stand up in his crib, so going down for his nap takes a little longer. he wants to get into everything so letting mama hold him is just not an option anymore. here's a brief snapshot of what keller is doing at 11 months:
  • jabbering non stop
  • repeating any and every sound you say to him
  • "reading".."hi", "clap", "arms up", "mouth"
  • crawling like a wounded soldier, although he can crawl on hands and knees
  • cruising on anything he can get his hands on
  • still sucking on those 2 left fingers
  • likes to "head butt"...thanks granddad rusty :)
  • starting to show separation anxiety
  • loves playing with friends in the church nursery
  • flirts like crazy when he sees little girls (oh no!)
  • pulling up to standing
  • walks everywhere holding onto fingers
  • thinks daddy is the funniest guy he knows
  • loves giving and receiving kisses :)
  • plays "where's keller?"...hides behind his hands and says "boo!"
11 months old today!! still sucking on those 2 left fingers, will it ever end?

fortunately we only have 1 month of these left, because he did NOT want to sit still! still so cute :)

day 21

day 21.
a recipe.

this recipe has been passed down/around in my family. we make these cookies, which can be very elaborate, or very plain depending on how special the occasion or how much free time you may or may not have :) no matter how you fix them, they are DELICIOUS!! oh, by the way, i don't know who mary is, that's just what we call them, i'm sure she was someone's aunt or something :)

Mary's Sugar Cookies

Cookies:

1 cup butter at room temperature

1½ cups powdered sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

½ tsp almond extract

2½ cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cream of tartar

Icing:

1 lb powdered sugar

1 egg white

a pinch of salt

½ tsp vanilla

¼ tsp almond extract

enough milk to make spreadable

Cookies:

Combine butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract in a large mixing bowl until smooth. In a separate large bowl combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Fold a little at a time into the butter mixture until all ingredients are combined. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Bake for 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Icing:

Mix together powdered sugar, egg white, salt, vanilla and almond extract. Add milk 1 “cap” at a time until the icing is spreadable. Be careful not to add too much milk, this will make the icing to difficult to work with.
