1 December post :)

Okay, just so I don't leave a month empty...I am posting a Happy New Year's Eve post :)

This year has been crazy eventful, and starting tomorrow I will do a "Year in Review" post. All I can say is that God truly blesses us, daily, with more than we deserve. How fortunate we are to serve a God who loves us, even though we do everything we can to be disobedient to Him. Love you all, Cheers to a fantastic 2010!!

happy halloween!!

keller was a skeleton this year for halloween :) i didn't go with a traditional costume, considering we didn't go "trick-or-treating" i thought i'd do something more practical and bought him skeleton jammies, that he could wear as a costume, and then as pj's after the fact :) we went to our church's "family fall festival", aunt manny and drew bear came along and took him to do all the fun stuff while i worked our sunday school's booth. we all had a lot of fun and he was definitely the cutest little skeleton i've ever seen!
isn't he adorable?!?! :)
thanks for playing aunt manny!
scoping out his church girlfriend, landry kate :)
riding the horses...he LOVED them :)

Keller turns 1!!!!

okay, i realize this is almost a month late...but it's been a BUSY fall for the atchley's! more posts on that later :) keller turned 1 on 10.21.2010 we had a small family/close friends get together at our house. the weather turned out perfect, so we all played outside and ate all kinds of yummy food!! he was (as usual) spoiled like crazy with super fun, super great toys, books, balls (his favorite) and other good stuff. we felt to blessed to get to have so many people come for his special day. thank you to everyone! here are a few pictures :)
some of the bitty baby attendants :) playing of course
our "quotation" props...cableone wasn't showing the osu game, chris was chapped
some of the yummy food!!
we weren't sure if he like the cake....kidding! he loved it, shocker :)

riggs turns 2!

on 10.10.10 riggs isaac grantham turned 2 years old!! we celebrated the saturday before with a "transportation" birthday party :) the kid loves anything with wheels that he can push/pull/ride on/etc. there were tons of kids and just as many toys for them all to play with. i think everyone had a great time! here are some pictures from the big party!
aunt manny pushing keller in a car...cool dude with a mohawk :)
grandma ruby (my mom's mom) snuck keller a sugar cookie!! for shame for shame ;)
drew bear, maggie's boyfriend drew bear (in tune)
dads and boys, riding in the yard
the original 5 :) i can't remember the last time only the 5 of us took a picture
the birthday boy getting kisses from his aunts...he loves us, can't you tell?
the racecar cake my mom and i made for riggsy for his party...su-weet

nununununununununununununu..batman!!

my little batman...posing with his new favorite word, pumpkin or "pun-ky"
happy fall season!!

ball ball

keller LOVES playing with his little yellow soccer ball. anytime he sees any spherical object he gets very excited and says "ba ba!!!" he pushes it around all day and crawls after it. he wears himself out...and mommy too sometimes :)
crawling after the ball
he had crawled away and started walking toward me, but changed his mind when he saw it AGAIN

bro time

riggsy came to stay with grandma and granddad so we picked them up and met our buddy dagan at centennial park for some bro time! dagan was just on the cusp of becoming a big brother (his little bro tripp alan has since made his debut and is super cute!) so it was fun to just let these little guys hang out and be boys. riggs' mom (my sister) is also pregnant again so dagan and riggs talked big brother stuff while keller just chilled....okay maybe not but if sally ends up having a boy, the next bro time will have 5 LITTLS BOYS!! how much fun!
keller, riggs and dagan...3 future heart breakers

smitty baby :)

Keller was lucky enough to be the recipient of a smitty baby giveaway! check out the cutest little v-neck tee and cotton belt! if you have a little one, or know one that you like to dress in the coolest duds, you've gotta check out smitty baby , i can't promise you're little one will be as cute as this....

11 months old today!!

i can hardly believe that keller will be 1 year old in 1 month from today! he is growing at the speed of light!! for ever and ever i thought he would never crawl and then within a span of 2 weeks he started "crawling", pulling up on everything and cruising all over the house. now for those of you who aren't familiar with baby talk "cruising" is when little guys who can't walk independently hold on the anything they can (fingers, couch, coffee table, wall etc) and take steps to get where they need to go. it's the precursor to walking. i am pretty confident that he'll be walking by his 1st birthday, or at least i hope so. it is definitely a different day for us now because he can stand up in his crib, so going down for his nap takes a little longer. he wants to get into everything so letting mama hold him is just not an option anymore. here's a brief snapshot of what keller is doing at 11 months:
  • jabbering non stop
  • repeating any and every sound you say to him
  • "reading".."hi", "clap", "arms up", "mouth"
  • crawling like a wounded soldier, although he can crawl on hands and knees
  • cruising on anything he can get his hands on
  • still sucking on those 2 left fingers
  • likes to "head butt"...thanks granddad rusty :)
  • starting to show separation anxiety
  • loves playing with friends in the church nursery
  • flirts like crazy when he sees little girls (oh no!)
  • pulling up to standing
  • walks everywhere holding onto fingers
  • thinks daddy is the funniest guy he knows
  • loves giving and receiving kisses :)
  • plays "where's keller?"...hides behind his hands and says "boo!"
11 months old today!! still sucking on those 2 left fingers, will it ever end?

fortunately we only have 1 month of these left, because he did NOT want to sit still! still so cute :)

okay, so after realizing the last several posts are all just talking about my day, week, month and year in great detail, i'm cheating and not doing anymore of those. honestly, it is not interesting to read about. in december i'll do a wrap up of the atchley's year, brief with lots of pictures...but other than that, i'd say it's just better to leave those updates off :) so, on to day 30... :)

day 24

day 24.
whatever tickles my fancy.

this past saturday began the start of college football season!! my alma mater, oklahoma state university, defeated the washington state cougars 65-17 in their home opener. kendall hunter rushed for 257 yards, and obviously didn't play much of the second half. so this post is dedicated to him and the "hunter for heisman" campaign :) go pokes!

day 23

day 23.
a youtube video.

this one is a so old, but still one of my all time favorite youtube videos :) enjoy!

day 22.

day 22.
a website.

www.ostate.com this is the rivals website for oklahoma state. it keeps me posted on everything oklahoma state athletics related. recruits, commitments, rumors, etc...it's wonderful. if you love osu sports, you need to check it out :)

day 21

day 21.
a recipe.

this recipe has been passed down/around in my family. we make these cookies, which can be very elaborate, or very plain depending on how special the occasion or how much free time you may or may not have :) no matter how you fix them, they are DELICIOUS!! oh, by the way, i don't know who mary is, that's just what we call them, i'm sure she was someone's aunt or something :)

Mary's Sugar Cookies

Cookies:

1 cup butter at room temperature

1½ cups powdered sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

½ tsp almond extract

2½ cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cream of tartar

Icing:

1 lb powdered sugar

1 egg white

a pinch of salt

½ tsp vanilla

¼ tsp almond extract

enough milk to make spreadable

Cookies:

Combine butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract in a large mixing bowl until smooth. In a separate large bowl combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Fold a little at a time into the butter mixture until all ingredients are combined. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Bake for 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Icing:

Mix together powdered sugar, egg white, salt, vanilla and almond extract. Add milk 1 “cap” at a time until the icing is spreadable. Be careful not to add too much milk, this will make the icing to difficult to work with.

day 20

day 20.
a hobby of mine.

something that i love to do, and definitely consider a hobby...refinishing/repurposing old furniture. i love to take something that is old, unwanted, unattractive, not being used to its full potential and making it something that people love! i am the kind of person who will take on the project and actually see it through to completion...just for the joy of seeing the before and after :) i didn't have a before picture of this little table, except from when i used it for keller's 4 week pictures, so here as an example...
before....(ignore the precious little naked guy)
after

day 19

day 19.
a talent of mine.

well, this kind of started because i made a cake for my sister maggie's 20th birthday party...at the time i thought it was a really pretty cake, looking back it was pretty bad. anyway, it prompted me to start making cakes for certain occasions. nothing serious, i've done a few birthdays, baby showers and wedding showers. i really enjoy it and would LOVE to own my own specialty bakery someday. if i ever live in a town that could support such an endeavor i will open one...until then i'll be thinking of a cute name for it :) this is a birthday cake for a 13 year old, the theme was 70's, peace signs, tie-dye etc. the sides said "peace, love and 13"

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

day 18

day 18.
whatever tickles my fancy.

okay, so right now i am completely OBSESSED with oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and the dough. i have been working out and eating healthy since a few months after keller was born, but all the sudden i can't get enough of these!! i do use splenda in place of sugar so that makes me feel a little better about eating 6 dozen of these at a time :) give them a try, they are better than regular chocolate chip...so much better!!!!!!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

day 17

day 17.
an art piece.

can you call it art if it's something you made? i painted this picture of chris and keller for chris for father's day. it is one of his more favorite gifts i've ever given him. this is a little skill i picked up from one of my art classes at oklahoma state...and of everything i learned while earning my degree, i think this is something i've used most :) i really enjoy painting, and gift giving :)

day 16

day 16.
a song that makes me cry (or nearly).

okay, so i know this is pretty lame....but about 9/10 that i sing the star spangled banner, i get all choked up and my eyes start to water! i will get goosebumps and everything. i know i know, it's so stupid, but i can't help it! i don't really consider myself a patriotic person but something about that song just makes me feel so statesmanlike.

day 15

day 15.
a fanfic.

? huh?? what's a fanfic? well i googled it, and apparently it stands for fanfiction? i still didn't know what this was, so i did a little more research, and from what i can tell fanfic = vampires, warewolves, wizards, unicorns etc. i don't do twilight, harry potter, star trek....you see where i'm going with this. so i have nothing to contribute to this post other than helping other losers like me who didn't know what the definition of "fanfic" was.

day 14

day 14.
a non-fiction book.

this is the non-fiction book i'm reading right now, i love it. i have been unable to put it down since i started it a few days ago. i have had this book for about a year now, but have had other things i've been reading. well now i wish i'd started reading this the minute i got it! i can already tell i'm going to have to re-read it several times. it discusses raising children in today's world, using biblical principles. it is definitely not a "how-to" book, as there are no exact answers. it's more like a "God says..." and for someone like me, who needs alllll the help i can get, it's very helpful.

day 13

day 13.
a fictional book.

harlan coben is one of my favorite fictional authors. he writes mystery/suspense, in a clever way. i have passed the coben bug onto both my sisters and my mother, who i think have passed it on to their friends. i found out about this little diamond in the rough by chance. i was in mexico with some girlfriends and had read the book i brought for the week quicker than i thought i would. so i went to the mexican library at our resort (i know what you're thinking)...well there was ONE book in english, and it was harlan coben's "tell no one" the sign at the library said "feel free to take a book, if you leave one" so i left the book i'd brought and took this one. i was instantly in love with his writing style and recommend him to any one who loves to read...i've never read one of his books that i didn't love.

day 12

day 12.
whatever tickles my fancy.

the price is right. if you know me, you know that i am a pretty competitive person...and by "pretty competitive" i mean i often (usually) embarrass myself when it comes to game nights, friendly competitions etc. i can't just lose gracefully...it's something i'm working on though. okay, i digress. i am convinced that if i could get on the price is right, i would own that show. i have mastered the "showcase showdown" and sometimes my sister and i will compete against each other to guess "closest without going over"...you can ask my punk sister maggie, on more than 1 occasion i've come within like $75 of guessing it right on! i should be more embarrassed about how accurately i can guess...but when i win a new car, a trip to rome and a new living room suit, we'll see who's laughing.

day 11

day 11.
a photo of me taken recently.

this is actually a couple months old, it's from our family vacation to mexico this summer, i just wanted to prove that in fact, some things never change :)

day 10

day 10.
a photo of me taken over 10 years ago.

this picture was probably taken in 1988, when i was almost 4 years old :) my sisters and i loved loved loved playing outside in the sun/water....some things never change!

Saturday, August 21, 2010

hiatus....

okay, i have not given up on my 30 day blog challenge, i've just fallen terribly behind due to the fact that i have no internet at home right now....i plan to catch up, post pictures from keller meeting his newest girlfriend ;), pictures from him on his 10 month birthday (today) and an update of what he's doing now....all within the next couple days. i have very limited access right now, but tuesday i'll be back in business.

Monday, August 16, 2010

day 09

day 09.
a photo i took.

this is a photo i took of keller at 8 months old ... his hair has lightened so much since this time, but it is one of my favorite pictures of him. he is so handsome, and the most precious little (almost) 10 month old i've ever seen. definitely my favorite subject to photograph!

day 08

day 08.
a picture that makes me sad.

this is a photo of my granddad rusty making homemade ice cream for an article the duncan banner did back in 1965. this picture make me happy and sad, i guess i cheated. my granddad rusty, or funpa as we affectionately called him, was my dad's dad. he is the only grandparent that i have lost. i had all 4 of my grandparents alive and WELL until i was more than 22 years old. i was fortunate enough to have very close relationships with all of them as well. my granddad rusty died unexpectedly on august 6, 2006...just as i was starting my last semester at osu. it was the most gut-wrenching news i've ever heard. 4 years later we all still tear up sometimes when we talk about him, but that's not the way he'd have it :) he was the most fun loving guy you could ever meet, and a fantastic husband, father, grandfather and friend. he left quite the legacy for us all to live up to!

day 07

day 07.
a photo that makes me happy.

this my friends an english bulldog puppy :) for Christmas '08, Chris got me one of these as a gift. the puppies were not going to be born until february, so he got me a gift basket with all the things you'd need to care for an english bulldog (which is a ton of stuff, they are very needy pups). well, long story short, the breeder we bought (and paid in full) from, didn't give us a puppy in february, march, april, may, june, july, august, september....but in october, the same month and year that our first son was to be born, she calls and tells us that a pup will be available for us in november. this wouldn't work for us, a new puppy and new baby within weeks of each other??? so we ended up selling the little guy, and have since decided we are not dog owners at heart. we both love dogs, but do not want to own one...but if we ever change our minds...this is the breed we will have. you can't look at this picture and not smile :)

day 06

day 06.
whatever tickles my fancy...a little known project of mine.

katie atchley photography is my photography company. it is a project that i started a couple years ago and something that i have loved doing. i have done a terrible job of keeping my website updated and i keep telling myself that someday i will fix that, maybe today will be the day :) i specialize in onsite photography, meaning i do not use a studio. i like to capture my clients in their everyday environment, doing what comes natural to them. i have done newborn, family, engagement, wedding, maternity, senior, business and fashion shoots. it truly is a passion of mine and i feel blessed that i get to pursue that passion. you can check out my work at katieatchleyphotography.com

day 05

day 05.
my favorite quote.

"people who grow up without a sense of how yesterday has affected today are unlikely to have a strong sense of how today affects tomorrow. it is only when we become conscious of the flow of time that the consequences of action become a consideration." -dr. lynn richards
now i don't know if she came up with this quote or not, but it was on all of her books from her classes. she is hands down the best professor i had at oklahoma state, and although this quote won't shatter your view of the world, it is such a simple truth.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

day 04

day 04.
my favorite book.

now, assuming we are only talking fiction....this is an easy one for me. i LOVE to read, and although there are several authors that i know i can't go wrong with, i have never read a book that i loved as much as "redeeming love" by francine rivers. it tells a fictional story of a man and woman that so closely mirrors God's love for his children, easily the best fictional book i've ever read.

chris' favorite fictional book is also an easy one. catch 22 by joseph heller. when chris and i first met i remember seeing him at the local coffee shop reading this book like every day for several months and i just thought he was a sloooooow reader...turns out he had finished it 3 times and just kept starting over :) i've never read it, though i keep promising him i will, but apparently it's a great book!

Day 03

Day 03.
my favorite tv show.

this is a hard one for me, i love friends, the office, friday night lights, a new favorite rules of engagement, family guy, the big bang theory...but i guess my favorite tv show is "how i met your mother"

ted, robin, marshall, lily, and of course barney...i have friends who've tried to watch it and didn't like it, i still hold that they didn't give it a fair chance because it really is so funny. chris and i have very similar taste in tv shows, and maybe it's just a byproduct of being married but it works out nicely for us :)

Monday, August 9, 2010

Day 02

Day 02.
my favorite movie.

again, i find myself wishing this question was broken into genres....comedy, classic, cartoon, action, etc. if i had to pick 1 movie, i would say "the departed". my reasoning is this, anytime this movie is on, i HAVE TO WATCH IT. seriously, i can't pull myself away.

it's a close call between that, and chris' favorite "the shawshank redemption" both are great movies, and you should see them if you haven't yet

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Day 01

Day 01.
My Favorite Song.

i feel like this category should have genre options because i have country favorites, 90's favorites, pop favorites, hymn favorites etc...but if i
had to pick just one it'd be "Crash" by DMB.

Chris is such a romantic at heart :) his all time favorite song, to which he would openly admit to anyone is "To Really Love a Woman" by Bryan Adams.
